Gently Enhance Your Skin with Laser Vein Removal

If you are concerned with prominent spider or varicose veins, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stanley L. Librach can recommend laser vein removal to rejuvenate your appearance and improve your self-confidence. By using advanced laser technology, our team can precisely target the areas of concern and leave surrounding tissue untouched. This means the minimally invasive procedure is virtually pain-free, while still offering lasting results. Although laser vein removal is considered a permanent solution to reduce the appearance of veins, we may recommend follow-up treatments at our Chesterfield, MO, office to maintain the best results.

Candidates for Vein Removal

If you want to reduce the appearance of veins on your lower legs, thighs, or other parts of your body, this treatment may be right for you. Varicose or spider veins can occur as a result of many factors including:

  • Genetic disposition
  • Pregnancy
  • Hormonal changes
  • Obesity
  • Certain medications
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Natural aging

Regardless of your specific situation, Dr. Librach understands that the appearance of spider or varicose veins can cause you to feel self-conscious about wearing certain clothes. He is pleased to offer laser therapy for most patients who are in good health and have realistic expectations about the results of their treatment.

Along with providing cosmetic benefits, laser vein removal can also reduce painful symptoms and restore your sense of self-confidence.

In order to ensure the safest, most aesthetic results, laser vein removal is not recommended for smokers and some patients with darker skin tones, since the laser treatment can cause discoloration. Patients who are prone to keloid scarring should also avoid laser vein treatment, as it can cause irregular scarring. During your initial consultation, Dr. Librach will review your health, concerns, and goals to determine whether this is the most appropriate treatment option for you.

The Procedure

Laser vein removal involves negligible discomfort, which allows patients to remain fully awake during their visit. The length and specific steps of your procedure will vary depending on whether you are treating spider veins or varicose veins.

Vein removal can provide a more uniform, youthful-looking appearance.

Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins are clusters of web-like blood vessels that appear close to the surface of your skin. Most prevalent on the face and legs, they can present cosmetic concerns for patients. During the procedure, we will use the laser to administer heat through the superficial layers of skin to the affected veins. The heat from the laser will cause the veins to shrink and become less noticeable. Depending on the size and severity of the affected area, spider vein treatment can typically be completed in about 20 minutes.

Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose veins are larger blood vessels that reside deeper in the tissue and typically require endovenous ablation therapy for the best results. In addition to detracting from your appearance, varicose veins can be extremely painful and laser vein removal can help you find relief from related symptoms. Prior to performing varicose vein laser removal, we will numb the treatment area using a local anesthetic and create a small incision in which to place a small tube. Using the tube, we can more effectively deliver laser energy into the targeted blood vessels to shrink the appearance of varicose veins and redirect blood flow to healthy veins.

Your Recovery and Results

Laser therapy often requires little downtime but the actual extent of your recovery will depend on the type of veins which were removed and the size of the treatment area. In general, patients are able to return to their normal routines immediately following treatment. In some cases, bruising and swelling may occur, but these should fade within a week or two.

After the area has fully healed, most patients can experience more youthful, evenly toned skin, and an overall rejuvenated appearance. Although existing spider or varicose veins should be permanently reduced with laser treatment, you can schedule follow-up treatment with Dr. Librach to address any new veins which develop.
